Two Minute Movie Review
Today's DVD-watching: Moon, which I just got from Netflix. It's well-written, well-acted, nicely put together, and serves as a lovely illustration of the fact that science fiction movies do not have to have explosions in them to be worth watching, which is something I wish were more generally recognized. Alas, it also left me wishing, rather wistfully, that I were less intimately familiar with science fiction, so that anything that happens in it might have had a chance at taking me by surprise. It's to the film's credit, though, that it left me feeling pretty positive about the whole experience, regardless.

Yeah, I also wasn't terribly surprised by any of it, not least of all because the main "twist" was spoiled for me going in (thank you very much, Mr. Kurt Andersen!). But I thought it was really quite entertaining and well put together despite all that.
ReplyDeleteGaah. Even though the nature of said "twist" was pretty much immediately obvious to me, I still would have found it highly annoying to be spoiled going in.
ReplyDeleteI do think it would have been a bit more effective if I'd felt some slowly dawning realization, instead of the instant "Oh, I get it" reaction that I had at several points, but, again, the mere fact that it works at all despite being completely predictable is pretty impressive.
