The Doctor Is In!

Here's some news I know several of my Loyal Readers are likely to be pleased by: The newest season of Doctor Who is coming to the Sci Fi Channel starting in September. I'll be interested to see what those of you who are more or less new to the show think of it...

  2. How is your eye doing. Better eye hope. Hey, where did you come from so quick?

  3. It's pretty much OK. I'm still using a lot of eye drops to keep it that way.

  4. What? The CBC chips in money and we have to wait until October?

    #%*%!!! etc...

  5. The part of me that loved the first season is happy. The part that's actually heard about the second is worried. I'm going to try to split the difference and try to watch with an open mind.

  6. I think that's exactly the right way to approach it. :)

  7. I don't think that the second series was much, if at all, inferior to the first. It's just that after the success of that first series people's expectations were higher.

  8. I thought it was a lot more uneven than the first season, and the whole dynamic between the Tenth Doctor and Rose stopped working for me pretty quickly, and in places let to much gritting of the teeth. (Not everybody agrees with me on that one, though, although I've talked to a lot of people who do.)

On the other hand, I also think this season contains possibly some of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever.

Oh. Erm. That means me, huh? Damn. So much for lurking. Ahem.

    Yay! Whooooo!

My only reservation is that I liked #9, so I don't know if I'll be able to like #10.

  10. You're allowed to like both. :)

It's a transition every Doctor Who watcher has to go through eventually...

  11. A guy I know in the UK said the transition was worse for some peopl ein the UK, since Tennant is more widely known over there. Many considered hiring Tennant a concession to the "Lad" cub-culture, sort of a cheaper Jude Law.
I still think my friend Gavin has the best idea - an Indian/Pakistani Doctor. I don't suppose Ben Kingsley would do it?

BTW Betty, I have Spike Milligan's "Pakistani Dalek" sketch up at Les Vlideog if you have never seen it.

  12. Yeah, I gather he's best known over there for playing Casanova, which has to create a bit of cognitive dissonance. :) He's a huge Who fan, though, and I've never encountered anyone who seemed to think he was a bad actor, so if it's a concession, it's not an obvious or egregious one.

And thanks for pointing me to the Spike Milligan thing! I'd certainly heard of it, but I'd never had the chance to see it.
