Say It Ain't So!
Apparently, DVDs are subject to rot. I find this notion extremely distressing, since I've seen some of the videotapes I've had since the 1980s deterioriate into near-unwatchability, and one of the reasons I've been so diligently collecting my favorite TV shows on DVD of late is because I want them on a medium that is going to last. If my Farscape discs aren't playable twenty years from now, I'm going to be seriously miffed.
Fortunately, the only time I've had a problem like the ones described in the article[*], I was able to get the disc replaced with no hassle whatsoever. Apparently not all merchants are that accomodating, though, which has the potential to be seriously annoying.
[*] It was one of the Buffy season 2 discs. You may remember me bitching about it here a few months ago, actually.
