Random Thoughts For Today

1. No matter how carefully I study them, I feel I will never truly understand extroverts. They are like some fascinating alien life form. Frequently exasperating, but fascinating.

2. Ever since I finished watching Max Headroom on DVD, I have had "Love for Sale" by the Talking Heads stuck in my brain, as some decision-making process deep in my cortex has decided that that is the actual theme song for that show, no matter what boring electronic thing they actually used. And, man, the Talking Heads are great and all, but it's starting to get old. (Also, verdict on Max Headroom: It hasn't aged remotely as well as the people who made it seem to think, and the title character is just as stupid as I remember. But there was definitely something there, and it was clearly in the process of maturing when it abruptly got cancelled. If nothing else, it's an interesting window into its times. Also, Morgan Sheppard is awesome. And Matt Frewer used to be disturbingly attractive when not covered in prosthetics. Even if he does sort of sound like a Muppet.)

3. Now that Mickey the kitten is leaving me soon, I keep alternating between feeling I already miss him like crazy and thinking guiltily about how much more peaceful it will be when he's gone. Also, I appear to be attempting to pack an entire kitty-lifetime of worrying about him into one remaining week. And then, true to my own neurotic tendencies, I get stressed out by how much I'm worrying. Sigh. Have I mentioned lately what a very, very good thing it is that I've never had kids?

  1. 1. On the other hand, my own experience (as an introvert) is that you probably understand them better than they understand introverts.

    3. I've been badly behind with reading, I'm sorry, and have only just caught up that he's leaving. I'm glad that he's going to a good home, and it does seem to be the best for your other cats. As for the worry, I'm sorry. I think we actually worry about them *more* than we might about kids: at least kids sometimes actually tell us what they think.

  2. 1) Oh, man, that is so true. Of course, we're more motivated, really. Introverts being introverts, we don't tend to intrude on the extroverts much, but extroverts being extroverts, they will force you to learn to deal with them whether you want to or not. :)

    3) Hey, I do not expect religiously devoted reading of my blog. :) And, yeah, I really do think Mickey living elsewhere will be the best thing for everyone.

And you're probably right about cats vs. kids, at least once the kids start to develop language abilities. You can also explain things to them. I'd love to be able to say, "Now, Mickey, I'm going to put you in the carrier, but don't worry, you're not going to the vet. It's going to be a very long trip and you're going to have to stay in there most of the day, and I'm sorry, but when you get there is will be great. You'll have a whole house to run around in and never have to stay cooped up in the bedroom, and there will be someone home to play with you all day, and no Vir to growl and hiss at you." Well, all right, I can say that to him (and probably will, to be honest), but he ain't going to understand me. Poor little critter.

  3. 3) Heh, yes, I tell Muffin all kinds of things, but they don't necessarily help. Like, "You can go out if you want to, but you'll get very wet...." Does he listen to me? Does he pay even the slightest bit of attention. No, he does not.

Seriously, I hope that Mickey's journey will go well, and that things will be better for him there.

  4. No, they never do listen. Although at least you can then have the satisfaction of saying "I told you so." Not that they listen to that, either. :)

And thanks! I'm sue if he can just manage to survive the trip he'll be fine. :)
