I Haz A Kitten!

Mickey the kitty is back! The vet said he seemed to be doing really well, and that, while he was kind of shy and scared the first couple of days, after that he quickly got over it and became very friendly and playful with them, which is good to hear. Yay, socialization! She also said that their daughter, who is also called Mickey (or possibly Micki) fell in love with the little guy and was in every day to play with him. Awww!

And I am pleased to report that they did have the results of the FIP tests: both negative! Which may not be definitive, but the vet did seem to think it was meaningful. She also said that they had seen some signs of worms, which might possibly account for the weirdness on the x-rays, and he's now had a dose of de-wormer. They're going to want to see him again in three weeks, and in the meantime I still have to keep him isolated from the other cats -- I'm thinking of moving Kitten World into the spare bedroom -- but the signs, they are very hopeful. Yay, Mickey!

  1. That all sounds good. Perhaps you should invite the human Mickey to come and play with the feline Mickey every so often?

  2. That's good to hear about Mickey! I'm glad that things are looking positive. I hope that the isolation doesn't cause too many practical difficulties!

  3. JH: I'm not sure how they'd feel about sending their kid out to play at my house with my cat. :)

Paul: I've relocated him from the bathroom to the spare bedroom now, and I think it's a huge improvement. I was concerned about doing that at first, as the door doesn't always latch properly, but I discovered that if you give it a little extra tug when you close it, it becomes impossible for cats to open.

  4. Hmmmm maybe you can convince them to adopt Mickey for Micki?

  5. I fear, in their profession, they're good at turning down offers of surplus cats. I know the receptionist is, 'cause I asked her. :)

  6. Someone here who thinks she found a kitten for her son's Christmas present (yes, I tried to sell her on Mickey, even though he's 1,300 miles away) suggested it's the best time of year to put an ad in the paper (um, if Socorro even has a newspaper) for a free kitten.

  7. We have a very tiny newspaper. :) But, of course, I need to make sure he's healthy before I try giving him away -- assuming I can even bring myself to at that point -- and that's going to be a few more weeks.

In any case, I'd be leery about trying to target people who want to give someone a kitten for Christmas. Pets as Christmas gifts are far too often an ill-advised idea.
