Walk On!

Apropos of the discussion of walking in the last post, I've just stumbled on a site that computes a location's "walk score", meaning how many of the places you might need on an average day are available within walking distance. My house gets 65 out of 100, apparently, which is definitely on the good end. Although some of the locations they mention as fulfilling my walk-to needs are not exactly very good examples of the things they're purported to be.

I notice that they only seem to include things less than a mile away as "walking distance." Pansies.

  1. 35 of 100. I think I`ll get a Segway.

  2. The image of you on a Segway is amusing.

  3. I got a 17.

(Which is why I have a AAA membership, of course, of course...)

  4. I'm a member of my municipality's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and in a couple of our meetings, they have shown the "bikeability" and "walkability" maps they are in the process of developing for the county. I won't bother providing the link, unless someone requests it here.

I just realized that I am the only pedestrian on a committee of rabid cyclists, and I'm the only non-ex-military, non-golfing, non-football fan employee in my office (not to mention in the very small minority of being non-Hispanic, as well). I really need to appreciate my uniqueness and the diversity I, a white male, bring to everyone's lives.
