Some Random Opinions

I have nothing particularly coherent to blog about tonight, and I think I'm running out of quizzes, so I thought I'd offer up, for your websurfing enjoyment, a selection of completely random opinions:

Men in Black II was watchable, but basically felt like a waste of my time and the time of everybody involved in making the movie. Yeah, it had a few moments, but mostly it just completely lacked the freshness and fun of the original. I vote "no" on Men in Black III.

That guy they've got hosting Beat the Geeks now is a lot geekier-looking than the last one. He's really got that whole Bill Gates look down. I don't know where they get some of those contestants, though. They always ask 'em, "What's the geekiest thing about you?," and half of them respond with stuff that only a completely ordinary, mundane, non-geeky sort of person would regard as the least bit geeky. Although one of the contestants who was on tonight said he had Empire Strikes Back sheets on his bed, which even I have to admit is pretty darned geeky.

The new blue "berry"-flavored Pepsi product has a really bizarre, weirdly futuristic sort of taste. The truly disturbing thing is that I could see myself getting hooked on the stuff after another 20 oz. bottle or two...

The Columbia House DVD club sucks. I joined up because they offered me a really good introductory offer, but now that I've gotten my Super Cheap-Ass DVDs from them for joining up and discharged my Minimum Purchase Duties (which really were pretty minimal, or I probably wouldn't have bothered), I think it's time to cancel this puppy. Their discs are more expensive than what I'd pay at my local video store or Wally-World, and that's even before you figure in the S&H. And, yeah, OK, living in the middle of nowhere as I do, it's sometimes worth it to me to spend a little more and get stuff delivered to my mailbox (as opposed to having to drive up to 160 miles round trip to shop), but that still doesn't help ol' Columbia House, because at least 99% of the time you can get the discs cheaper (postage and all) from Amazon. And it's not like Amazon is necessarily the cheapest place on the web, either. So fie on them, I say.

Speaking of discs, one of the discs Columbia House did purportedly have very cheap, and which I tried to buy only to be told that they were fresh out, was Reservoir Dogs. And it turns out to be just as well that I didn't get the movie from them, anyway, as they're coming out with what looks to be a very cool 20th Anniversary Edition later this month, and I'd rather have that, anyway.

And now I seem, for the moment, to be out of opinions.
