I Aten't Dead

Yes, yes, I do remember that I have a blog... What can I say? It's been a very uninteresting week, or something.

I did figure I would at least pop in to say to my loyal readers that if you're at all interested in space science, you should go here to see cool pictures of Mercury from the MESSENGER mission.

Also, if you're at all debating whether you want to bother watching Torchwood this season, I definitely recommend checking out the first episode, because it's surprisingly good. I'm really hoping it's a sign of where the show is going from here rather than a fluke, but I'm feeling pretty optimistic. I've always said I thought there was a good show in there struggling to get out! (I believe the episode is on BBC America next weekend, by the way, for the law-abiding Americans in the audience.)

  1. Guess I have to finally finish watching the first season of Torchwood...

  2. Well, you could probably skip it and go right to season 2 if you really wanted. What point are you up to? There are a couple of pretty good episodes in the last half of the season.

  3. "Ain`t" not "Ane`t" What grammer!

Mercury looks like our moon. Is this some kind of conspiracy like the lunar landing was?

  4. "I aten't dead" is a literary reference. The cool people will get it. ;)

Well rocks kind of look like rocks. But it's the subtle differences that are interesting! As for the conspiracy thing... Do I have to get Buzz Aldrin to come over there and punch you in the face? 'Cause he does that to people who accuse him of faking it, you know. :)

  5. Alas! I`m not cool. I live close enough to KSC to get my guys after only one Buzz Aldren. Actually, a former astronaut, John Fabian, told me that about Aldren when I asked him about the that coverup deal. Jokingly of course. My friend Steve Bales, had told me that too. Steve was a mission control officer for Apollo 11 and recieved the Presedential Medal of Freedom in 1970. If you would happen to have "Failure Is No An Option", he plays a prominent role in that documentary.

  6. Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, I don't have Failure Is Not an Option. Was the documentary based on Gene Krantz's book? Because I really ought to pick that up some time. *adds it to wish list while the thought is still fresh*

I have read Chris Kraft's Flight, which as I recall mentioned your buddy briefly.

  7. I should have mentioned it was by Gene Krantz.

  8. I just watched "Out of Time," so I've got just three more left.

I think I've gone from "this is pretty lousy" to "I wish this were better." Which might not seem like much, but it's usually enough. I'm still not always loving it, but there are some very good moments here and there, and more of them than in the beginning of the season.

  9. Ah, well, that's not very many to catch up on, then. And the second-to-last episode is one of the better ones, I think.

My attitude towards it pretty much the whole way through season one was "I wish this was better," interspersed with moments of "this is pretty lousy" and "hey, this pretty good."

I really do think there's potential there, and I'd love it if they were finally starting to live up to it.

  13. In the words of Louis Armstrong, "If you have to ask, you'll never know." :)
