Definition of "hell on Earth" #173: having to sit for eight hours in a room with a malfunctioning fire-alarm panel, which beeps loudly approximately once a second, every second, all freaking night.
Fortunately, I found a very nice mp3 file of white noise somewhere on the internet. Which is itself mildly annoying, but at least it covers up the sound that's deliberately calculated to be annoying and impossible to ignore.

Aargh!
ReplyDeleteSwear to God this commenting system HATES me!
ReplyDeleteAnd now I forgot the comment I was going to leave! HUMPH!!!!
*scratches head* What exactly is it doing to you? I haven't had anybody else complain... The only time I've seen difficulties with it that could result in losing what I've typed is if I bring up a comment box and start typing before it's figured out that it's supposed to log me in, and then refreshes the popup window with the right information or something, but that doesn't seem to happen to me very often. Are you usually logged into a gmail account, out of curiosity?
ReplyDelete1) When the window opens, it opens with the word verification at the top. If I scroll up to comment before it is COMPLETELY loaded, it jumps back down to the verification when its done loading.
ReplyDelete2) Under "choose an identity" I choose "Other." I fill in my name and if I hit TAB to go to the next field, it jumps up to the big comment box.
3) I fill out everything out, remembering not to hit TAB like I can do in any other comment box, and I hit Publish this Comment and it brings me to the top of the comment window but it doesn't register my comment. All the windows/fields are still filled out. So I hit Publish this Comment again and it still doesn't publish anything. It won't unless I fill it all out again by closing the box and filling everything in from scratch. Pain in the ASS!
At one place we used to get an alarm from a motion detector on the average of 120 times an hour from 9pm-7am and there was nothing there to set it off.
ReplyDeleteHuh. That's... weird. Maybe I just haven't seen it because I'm usually logged in, and don't use "other" even if I'm not... I wonder if anybody else has that problem.
ReplyDeleteMagnus: I think there's a word for a piece of technology that behaves liek that: broken.
Just to let you know the same thing keeps happening to me too
ReplyDeleteThe comment thing, not the alarm
Well, damn it...
ReplyDeleteWell, I seem not to have any problems commenting. Maybe its my profound knowledge of computers.
ReplyDeleteHey Kathy, some landslide. We dont have them in Florida, we have caverness sinkholes.
ReplyDeleteNot broken, just a new piece of technology that apparently never went through some sort of beta-test phase. Consumers as lab rats.
ReplyDeleteWe have caverness sinkholes too, one swallowed a city truck.
