It's Oct-What?!

October? How the hell did that happen? It's weird... The summer -- or at least, the hot, dry part of the summer -- just seemed to drag on and on and on. August started out acting like it was going to go the same way, and then, BAM!, suddenly it was over and it was September. And then, while I was still reeling over that shock ("Hey, where'd this September thing come from all of a sudden?"), BAM!, September's gone, too, and all at once it's October. October, for crying out loud. Summer is winding down and winter is looming on the horizon. (We don't really have fall in New Mexico. In place of fall, we have a period where it gets hot enough to be uncomfortable during the day and cold enough to be uncomfortable at night.) I'm not ready for winter, dammit! I wanna know where my September went!
