Decisions, Decisions

Am trying to decide whether I have the ambition or the energy to bake fruitcake again this year. I'm still astonished by how well it came out last time. But I also seem to remember it taking a lot longer to make than I expected it to, and I appear to be running out of time before Christmas.

Damn my conflicting impulses towards laziness and accomplishing things!

[ETA: OK, my love of cake won out over inertia. I'm in the process of cooking it now. And, man, this recipe is easier than I remember it being. Yay!]

  1. Wait, so people eat fruitcake?!

  2. The jury's still out on that one. She only said she was baking it, not eating it.

  3. My fruitcake is extremely good, and not at all the much-maligned evil foodstuff of pop culture lore. Thank you very much. :)

  4. So do you use a specific fruitcake recipe? We like Alton Brown's free range fruticake recipe. Speaking of which, it's probably time to go booze up our fruitcake again. :)

  5. Yep, I use this one. You can vary the fruit as you like, and it comes out really nice. I use dried cherries instead of the glace ones. Those simply do not count as food, IMO.
