Hmm.

Now that I've got this blog all spiffed up to the point where I'm happy with it, I find that I don't seem to have anything to say.

  1. Isn't that always the way?

  2. You're too busy responding to comments to think of anything new. (And did you notice that your changes generated as many comments as your Dr. Who posts?)

  3. Well, you can always tell us how your encounter with 'Sapphire & Steel' ended (cause I don't think you ever did)...

  4. Captain C: It's nice to know people care. :)

Rag: Wow, Sapphire and Steel was a while ago. And a weird experience. That show made absolutely no sense whatsoever, and yet it was bizarrely compelling.

  5. From the little of it I've seen -- maybe half of the first serial -- I'd say "bizarrely compelling" is probably accurate. It seems like an interesting, albeit ultimately kind of ridiculous concept, uplifted largely by McCallum and Lumley's performances.

  6. It really is fascinating, and I found that it got more so the more I watched. I can't quite decide if it's an absurd concept or an audaciously brilliant one... Probably both, really. It does something science fiction never really dares to do, for very good reason: shows you incomprehensible alien characters doing incomprehensible alien things for incomprehensible alien reasons. Part of me thinks that's an incredibly dumb idea for a TV show, but part of me is damned impressed by it. Also impressive are the show's ability to achieve a remarkably creepy atmosphere on a budget that makes Classic Who look ritzy, its surprising -- and surprisingly awesome -- ending, and, yes, McCallum and Lumley, who are terrific in their parts and have marvelous chemistry, to boot.

Ultimately, watching it is deeply WTF-ish experience, and it's definitely not going to be for everybody, but I have to say I ended up enjoying it quite a lot, almost in spite of myself. :)

  7. My problem is usually one of having more to say than I have time and energy with which to say it. But both ways round, it's a bit frustrating!

Thinking of imminent topics of discussion, do you know how long it'll be before you get to see the new Doctor Who?

  8. I've had that problem from time to time, too. I think it's Murphy's Law of Blogging. :)

And to answer your question: maybe a couple of hours from air time, depending on how many people are seeding. ;)

  9. I was hoping that might be the answer. :-) I'll look forward to hearing what you think. (I'll be at Eastercon, so may not have chance to say anything at length, but I'll very definitely be watching.)

  10. I buy them all on DVD as soon as they're available, so I have absolutely zero guilt about downloading, but I simply cannot wait to see them. :) (Plus, I don't get BBC America, which is annoying. I could get it, but I think that would involve paying a lot more for only one channel that I'm actually interested in, and I just can't quite see doing that.)
