One More Change...

I've just changed the comment settings to take you to the comments section of the post page, instead of opening a popup. I think I like this a lot better. Objections?

  1. Well, I like the somewhat bigger text box, if nothing else.

  2. Good. The only downside I'm seeing is that if you want to preview your comment, it previews it in the text box, so you can't necessarily see it all at once. But I don't think that's a big deal.

  3. What I'm noticing is that I have to preview the comment, since "Post Comment" just redirects me to the word-verification captcha that isn't there initially. (Though maybe that's just on my work computer. Blogger-based captchas have always been a little weird.) Also, the preview box is even smaller.

  4. It does? Hmm. That's annoying. I'm not seeing that, but that's because I'm logged into Google so it doesn't feel the need to present me with a captcha. I assume you aren't logged in?

I could just turn the verification off -- I hate making people use it, anyway -- but as I recall the reason I turned it on in the first place is because I was starting to get enough spam to be really irritating. Sigh.

  5. One annoying feature of Blogger captcha is that being logged in doesn't seem to "stick" for very long at all as far as it's concerned, even when Google itself - should one go there - still regards one as logged in.

  6. Oh, I'm logged in. It's giving me all sorts of "comment as" options, but I'm logged into my Google account.

Like I said, it might just be here at my work computer, which has been known to sometimes give me errors I don't see elsewhere.

  7. This time I was offered a tick-box with "Stay logged in", which I duly selected. I never used to see that option, so perhaps that will solve my problem.

I now find that, like Fred, "Post Comment" just redirects me to the word-verification captcha that isn't there initially.

  8. I like the changes overall, and I prefer the comment box being on the same page. I'm seeing the same as the others, that 'Post Comment' just takes me to the CAPTCHA - even though I was already logged in. That doesn't worry me, though.

  9. Ah, OK. I just double-checked, and it seems the only one it's not asking for verification is me. So, logged in or not, everybody will indeed be redirected to the captcha. Why it doesn't just show it along with the comment box in the first place, I don't know, but apparently it doesn't.

How big of an annoyance is this for folks? Should I go back to the old version? I still like it better like this, but if I had to go through the two-step process every time I wanted to comment, I might feel differently.

  10. Oh, and Paul, I have duly registered your vote for preferring this version. :)

  11. I've often gone through a two-step process, anyway: if I'm not already logged in, I preview first, in order to be able to subscribe to comments on the post and see your response.

  12. I feel the same as Paul, that I prefer this version.

  13. its cool to me. I use a preview program called Cooliris so I dont have go back and forth between pages. I can also comment on your site with Cooliris.

  14. I kind of like getting to preview and then enter the word verification.

  15. Oh, and thanks for putting those links back in. :)

  16. You're welcome!

And I guess the comment change stays. :)
