There's Probably A Cute Pun On "Left" I Could Use Here, But My Brain Just Isn't Up To It.

Before I forget (or before I fall asleep, which is likely to happen all too soon), here's your regular Doctor Who discussion post for this week's episode as aired on Sci Fi, "Turn Left." No spoilers for the two remaining episodes after this, please!

  1. Arguably Catherine Tate's best work on the series and possibly my favorite episode. I say possibly because there was that Steven Moffat two-parter... Still, a great episode.

I hate to say it, though, but I found Billie Piper's new lisp a little distracting.

  2. Yes to all of this! Piper's lisp aside, the only things that I find at all unsatisfying about this episode have to do with the way certain stuff in it was (or wasn't) followed up later, but that's a discussion for the next couple of weeks. Otherwise, yes, definitely a highlight of the season!

  3. I must admit that I hadn't thought that Davies was capable of writing that well.

  4. I thought "Gridlock" was also very good, and I loved his writing on Queer as Folk. So I knew he was capable of it. But his work is, to say the least, exceedingly variable. It really is very nice to see him at his best.

  5. Agreed on "Gridlock" -- although Ardal O'Hanlon in cat makeup had a little something to do with it, too. :)

  6. Yes, he definitely didn't hurt. :)

  7. The only one I can think of is, "Right turn, Clyde," from Every Which Way but Loose.

  8. I do remember making a joke at the time about Bugs and "shoulda taken that left turn." :)
