*sighs heavily and goes off to reset all the clocks yet again*

Dear Daylight Savings Time,

Damn it, I was using that hour! Give it back!

No love,
Me

  1. It's a pain, isn;t it. We have to wait another three weeks (I think) before it happens here.

  2. Yeah thanks to congress controlling time itself!!! The clocks have gone ahead earlier.

  3. John: It's even more of a pain that we're out of step with you guys. The fact that the difference between our time zones isn't even consistent makes it harder to keep track of what time it is elsewhere. Of course, it's even worse trying to convert to time zones in the southern hemisphere, where they're moving their clocks in the opposite direction from us.

    Kathy: Congress are Time Lords!

Hmm, you know, actually there are definite similarities. Bunch of stuffy old self-important men... :)

  4. Do congessmen wear silly hats? :)

  5. Well, they wear ties, which are equally silly, IMHO. :)

  6. Just when it was getting light enough to see on the way to work... I think I've ranted about this before, but daylight savings time actually uses more electricity for those of us who get up early.

  7. Rant away. I hear ya. Although it's the mere fact of changing the clocks that bothers me most. Oh, yes, Americans don't suffer from enough sleep deprivation. By all means, let's deliberately screw with their circadian rhythms! And screw extra with those of shift workers!

Actually, though, as a night person I'd be happiest (and use the least electricity) if we'd just stay on daylight hours. It annoys me no end that just when the hours of sunlight are getting scarcer, anyway, that's when we have to arrange things to make sure it's pitch-dark by the time I wake up if I'm working nights. (And blindingly bright when I'm trying to go to sleep, too. Sigh.)

Regardless, what (astonishingly little) modern research has been done on the subject apparently suggests that DST might just increase energy consumption.

  8. I like where I live - everyone else changes but us. Far less confusing...it's just the TV schedules to keep in mind and we're set.

  9. I was just recently talking to somebody else from there who was complaining bitterly about missing TV shows when everyone else's clocks changed.

  10. Based on the comments here, I'd say that this particular savings plan has a very low interest rate.
