I Won't Guarantee They'll Be Worth A Thousand Words, Though.

OK, I still haven't had the chance to play around with the new digital camera very much, so I figured I'd call on you, my faithful readers, to help me out. I vaguely recall this going around as a meme a while back, but of course I wasn't exactly equipped to do it then. So:

Tell me one thing that you'd like me to take a picture of, and I'll see about doing so and posting the result. Note that I reserve the right to veto anything too personal or too inconvenient, and also to arbitrarily decide that I've gotten bored and will stop taking requests. Leave a comment here with your suggestion, or send me an e-mail, or contact me any other way you might happen to know of to contact me, as long as it doesn't involve knocking on my door or making my phone ring before about noon.

  2. Um, OK. This isn't some weird fetish thing, is it? :)

  3. A dish from the VLA...I mean one of those big radio antennas, not like the thing you eat off of.

  4. Well, I'm not gonna drive all the way out there just to snap a picture, but I've got plenty of photos from there already... I'll scan one of 'em in.

  5. CHEATER!!!! Wait, I thought you worked there. I basically want to see where you work.

  6. Jen: I work at NRAO, which operates both the VLA and the VLBA, but the VLBA, which I work on, is run from a building in Socorro. So I don't actually get out to the VLA site very often. I can take a picture of the Array Operations building, if you like, or my work area.

Dad: That may involve having to figure out the self-timer... :)

  8. I'll take on when I go in on Monday, then.

  9. I think you eluded to someone else asking, but how about a picture of the outside of your house, oh and your to read book stack!

  10. Yeah somebody asked for it elsewhere, so I will definitely do that. Although, man, my yard is a mess, and the trim on my house badly needs to be painted. So I don't think it will be pretty.

And I don't think I'll be able to get the entire To-Read Pile in one shot, but I'll see what I can do. :)

  11. Wow...you work at the VLBA? That is terribly cool.
What do you do? Analyse the data? Keep it running? Do tell...
    Nice photos by the way...

  12. Oh...I forgot...take a picture of your favorite "thing" in the house. Just curious what it might be.

  13. My job has been to operate the correlator, which is the big computer than performs the first step in processing the data: it takes data off all the individual discs (or, as it used to be, tapes) from each antenna and turns them into one single "correlated" file. Now, though, I'm also learning to operate the telescope array. So, yeah, "keep it running," pretty much. :)

As for my "favorite thing," I don't think I know what it is, either! We've already had pictures of my books, cats, and computer... Collectively, I think that covers it. Unless you want a picture of the water heater, because hot & cold running water is definitely on that list. Indoor plumbing is the true hallmark of civilization, IMO. :)
