Local Color

After having been told repeatedly that I really, really ought to, I have finally started watching Breaking Bad. The pilot was fairly interesting, but, man, watching a TV series set in Albuquerque is just weird. Weird, and distracting. It's kind of hard to concentrate on what the characters are doing when I'm staring so hard at the locations, yelling things like, "Hang on, I've been to that car wash!"

  1. Yes I feel the same with like Grimm or Leverage... And sometimes yelling wait a minute... you can't walk there in 5 minutes they are 10 miles away LoL

    1. I still haven't gotten over Contact taking a canyon from Arizona and transplanting it across from the VLA.

  2. I can see how that would add an extra level of weirdness to the show. The good news is, it's actually largely filmed in Albuquerque, not just set there, so it should be reasonably accurate. Though the show isn't strictly about realism. Personally, I love it, but it's hard to talk about all the reasons why without spoilers.

    1. Oh, yes, that's definitely Albuquerque. Although a seamier side of it than I've ever seen! :) I do notice the little things they change, though. Like the name of that car wash, or the fictional local TV station. On the other hand, they do refer to real neighborhoods and street names.

I've watched through the (very short) first season now, and am definitely liking it so far.
