Still Not Dead

I'm still not dead. Really. My sleeping patterns are still kind of fubared, however (although they are improving a bit), which means that I seem to spend most of my free time lately either sleeping (at strange hours) or trying not to fall asleep (and frequently failing). Which means that I have done very little worth speaking about in the last week.

Well, at least we have new TV... My reaction to Battlestar Galactica, oddly, is still to be perfectly interested in it while I'm actually watching it, and to immediately stop caring about its existence as soon as I turn off the TV. But I'm very much enjoying Lost, and the most recent episodes, pleasingly, give me what feels like the beginning of the glimmer of an inkling of the sense that things are developing in such a way that it will all make some vague kind of sense in the end.

  1. I only managed to watch half of the most recent Battlestar. It's kind of amazing: I was pretty much enjoying the episode, but it really didn't bug me not seeing the rest.

Lost, on the other hand, probably would have driven me crazy if I'd missed part of it. I don't think I'll really be able to judge the show until it's over and done with, but it does seem like they know exactly where they're going. Which is a good sign.

I've also been watching more of Blake's 7. It's not a perfect show, and certainly a little dated at times, but I'm really quite enjoying it. Only about eight episodes in, but it was a good show. I can definitely see echoes of Farscape it.

Oh, and speaking of -- I was tempted to pick up the comic, but the issue was going for $10 at my local comic book store. That's a little pricey; I think I may wait for the collected issues.

I wasn't at all sure for a while whether they had any real plan, which was mildly worrying, but I'm feeling much more confident on that point now. I'll be a little surprised if every loose end gets tied up with a neat little bow, but if things in general end up feeling like they fit together in some coherent fashion, I'll be happy enough. And I already have the sense that things are trending in that direction, that we're already seeing glimmerings of what the ultimate explanation will be. But I'll say no more than that without spoiler warnings. :)

Yay! It is a bit uneven, to say the least -- there are episodes that are dramatically brilliant, IMO, and ones that are painfully cheesy by anybody's standards. And you really do have to learn to look past the not-so-special FX. But it holds something of a special place in my heart.

Or vice versa, really. :) As I'm fond of saying, it really was the great-granddaddy of the whole "band of criminal misfits bickering their way through space" subgenre that became so popular decades later. It was also fairly dark and gritty (albeit in its own, uh, colorful way) before that became popular, and did a bit of the story arc thing long before that became something that's expected.

You might be able to find it cheaper once they release the second printing. Otherwise, yeah, it'll definitely be showing up as a collection eventually.
