Various Things

  • So, remember when I broke the carafe to my coffee machine and was ranting and raving about it being impossible just to buy a goddamned replacement for it, and I finally went out and bought a model it was easy to find parts for? (Yeah, it's OK if you don't.) Well, the carafe on the new one lasted less than seven months. And, gosh and golly, that model seems to have been discontinued in the meantime, and the carafe that fits it is no longer available in stores or on the internet anywhere. Gaaah! This sort of thing makes me lose a little hope for humanity. I only wish I were joking about that. Anyway, I now have yet another coffee machine, this one with a metal carafe. If I somehow manage to break this one, I give up.

  • I thought the new Doctor Who was utterly delightful. I have decided that I like the new guy and he is allowed to stay.

  • Happy Easter to those for whom it is relevant! I have no chocolate, sadly, but I heard a rumor there might be ham at some point later on.

  1. I think the easiest thing to do is get a new coffee maker, by the time you have factored in the cost of 2 new carafes?

  2. It is far and away the easiest thing to do, and that fact is just... wrong. How horrible is it that we as a culture will happily throw perfectly functional machinery into a landfill just because one easily replaceable component fails? And how depressingly perverse is it that our whole economy is set up to deliberately encourage us to do that?

  3. Yeah, that new Doctor Who was pretty great. I'm not sure I loved that "what am I missing?" bit, where they tracked back everything the Doctor had seen -- that doesn't count as a spoiler, does it? -- but otherwise, very happy with the new team so far. Delightful is definitely the word I'd use to describe it, and the preview for the season to come looks great.

  4. Yeah, that one scene was the one thing that didn't work for me. I really hope they don't try to do that again. Otherwise, yeah, it's wonderfully fun stuff, and has made me a very happy fan. :)

  5. Boy, and I thought cars and VCRs were designed for disposal rather than repair.

  6. Oh yeah... you can get Easter candy at 50% off now. I bought enough at the grocery store last night to last me until the day after Halloween.
