You Know You're From South Jersey When...

There was a really good episode of House on last night, about which I will not say much a) because I don't want to give spoilers and b) because I don't actually have any Deep Thoughts about it. But I will say this: Man, if I had 24 hours to live, I would so totally want a hoagie.

  1. shhhhhhhhhhhh!! I'd taped it, but haven't watched it yet. Speaking of South Jersey. A few episodes ago, I actually heard Dr House use the phrase "Down the Shore" it just sounded weird coming from Hugh Laurie.

  2. I shall say nothing else about it, fear not. But it was a good ep. :)

I'm deeply impressed, not just by Hugh Laurie's astonishingly good American accent, but by the fact that, yeah, the characters on that show do talk like they're from Jersey.

  4. The show's set in Princeton. That particular episode also featured a trip to Atlantic City, and a patient who was from Moorestown.

  5. I watched it last night good episode. Nice to see John Laroquette-I'm not sure how to spell it. They could have just gone to Wawa and got an italian hoagie. There's one on every corner :)

  6. Janice brought back some Wawa coffee when she up north. GREAT!

  7. But did she bring back a hoagie, is the important question!

  8. I met some people from New Jersey this summer - and they looked it too. They were in their sixties and looked and sounded exactly like the kind of people that television tells us come from New Jersey.

  9. They were undoubtledly from North Jersey, then. :)

  10. Betty: Do you think Magnus would say we were from NJ?

  11. Well, he probably doesn't know understand the fine distinctions between north and south. :)

  12. Ok in the interest of family harmony I will not comment :) P.S. Your Pop-email me some Christmas ideas.

By the way Betty quit goofing off at work :)

You know until this episode I actually didn't realize the show was set in Princeton. I always assumed it was somewhere crappy like Newark or something. No offense to any Newarkians.

  13. I'm not at work now, though. I was supposed to work today, but my schedule got shuffled around a bit. (Much to my satisfaction, I might add, because it means I don't have to be up obscenely early this week.)

And I'm a bit surprised you didn't realize that, as it does look like Princeton. Probably because they actually filmed those exterior shots at Princeton.

(Also, I think the crappiness of Newark is established, objective fact. :))

  14. Would Somerville be North Jersey or South Jersey? A friend of a friend used to live there, and when my friend and I went on holiday to the US in the early 1990s we stayed with him for a couple of days. It was a pleasant town.

  15. That would be in North Jersey. I actually had to look it up on a map, which shows you how unfamiliar I am with that part of the state.

  16. Here's a simple, basic (i.e. not 100% effective) test. If the zip code begins with 07, it's North Jersey, and 08 is South Jersey.
