The Tooth? I Can't Handle The Tooth.

So, I finally got to the dentist, and sure enough, I have a tooth abscess. I have a very bad tooth abscess. (Really, it's never a good sign when a medical professional looks at you and goes, "Yow.") Hopefully the tooth isn't going to have to be removed, but salvaging it is going to require a bit of oral surgery. Specifically, an apicoectomy, where they clean out damaged tissue and snip off the end of the root. Aka, yet another unpleasant, expensive, annoying thing that's going to be hard to work in around my work schedule and require multiple trips into the city. SIGH. This being human gig is getting old fast.

  1. Ouch. Those are not fun in any form. My abscess required a large bit of jaw to be cleaned out. It took about a year to grow back in. I hope it isn't anything similar.

    1. I'm a little worried it may be, because it's pretty darned big, apparently. Sigh. Well, at least after the experience of having my wisdom teeth out, I know the bone does grow back eventually.

But we'll see what the doctor says. I can't even call for an appointment yet, though, until I get my work schedule for the next month and figure out what days I have or can get off work for it.

  2. The doctor I used was Doctor Steven Traub in Albuquerque NM. He doesn't take insurance but once paid it covers all the visits afterwords (and there will be a lot of regular visits afterword for an abscess of any large size). The operation was well done and his staff are a joy to work with.

    1. Well, a doctor who doesn't take insurance isn't going to happen. But my regular dentist already gave me a couple of referrals -- two, because the first guy might be too busy -- so hopefully whichever one I end up with will be good, too.
