Isn't That Robot Body Ready Yet?

Well, the good news is, I survived the anesthesia and everything, and, with the exception of some rather horrific side effects from the medication they made me take the night before -- which I won't get into, but suffice it to say that I am never, ever taking that particular drug again -- the experience wasn't too awful. Not pleasant, by any remote stretch of the imagination, but not too awful. The nurses were super-nice, which, in that sort of context, even generally misanthropic me finds helpful.

The bad news is, apparently my stupid uterus is so full of growths that the doctor thinks I am going to need a hysterectomy, because there's not much short of that they can do with it.

Stupid useless troublemaking organ. I think it's annoyed because the kidneys and the liver get to do stuff, while it just sits there not having babies month after month, and it's decided it wants some attention.

  1. Yay for surviving, but I'm sorry about what they've found, and that you're going to have to go through more... I hope at least you're now over the effects of this time, between the medication and the anaesthesia.

    1. Thanks. And, yeah, I'm actually doing pretty well now. Infinitely better than I was last night. :)

  2. Yeesh. I'll stop by to hold your hand and comfort you when I go back to NM for Christmas. And, knowing full well that neither you nor I is a touchy-feely type person, I'll gladly substitute timey-wimey for that. ;) I'm very glad that you've made it through thus far.

  3. Sorry to hear about the bad news. Though a friend of mine recently had a hysterectomy, and despite needing several weeks to recuperate, the procedure itself went (relatively) easily. (I say this, of course, as someone without a uterus of his own.) So hopefully it won't be too bad news, despite the probable additional anesthesia. Hopefully no more horrific medication side-effects too! :)

    1. Everyone seems to know at least one person who's had a hysterectomy, and everyone seems to say pretty much the same thing: the surgery is fine, but the recovery period is annoying.

Well, we'll see what the doctor has to say when I talk to her again in a couple of weeks. We might have to do some cost-benefit analysis to figure whether it's actually worth going through the surgery or not, but I have the feeling it's probably going to happen at some point.

And thanks for the sympathies! Be glad you don't have a uterus. They can turn on you far too easily. Although I suppose that is also true of the prostate. :)

    3. It's true! And that is why it sucks to be made out of meat. :)
