Today I got a tax refund check in the mail. Which would be a pleasant and wholly unremarkable thing, except that I owed taxes this year. And paid them already. *scratches head*
A bit of googling seems to indicate that such mystery checks are usually followed up with a letter of explanation. I hope mine arrives soon. And, y'know, makes sense. For the moment, I'm sort of afraid to cash the darned thing.

We the US Government would like you to cash this check! You will need to provide us with your bank account, social security number, and name/address. We will then WIRE directly to you all future checks using a partnership with Romanian and Nigerian banks.

Heh!
ReplyDeleteActually, "possible scam" was my first thought, but the check certainly appears legit. Well, a legit US Treasury check, anyway. Whether I'm actually entitled to the money or not may be an entirely different question. :)
Sounds like you might have entitled this: "Things That Befuddle Me, #1,475,927".
ReplyDeleteI did think about it. :)
